Once the pigs had done their job, and nature had reclaimed some land form the overgrown bracken and bramble, we were left with over 15,000m² of refreshed and revived grassland and meadow at Le Monteil.
The 3 miniature donkey's simply couldn't keep up with the new growth and maintaining this land with the tractor and topper seemed a waste of good grass and meadow plants.
Time to employ some woolly lawnmowers!
Here at Le Monteil Revolution the sheep help keep the grass nice and healthy and stop the brambles and bracken making a comeback. We usually have a rotating flock of around 5-10 ewes on site with one friendly Ram. Recently we have had a mix of Charollais X Texel as they are easy to handle and produce large healthy lambs usually unassisted. Lambing at Le Monteil is usually planned for March with the lambs playing about on-site until June upon where they are sold on to bigger farms or local smallholding.
